The Surge Network was born out of a desire to see dozens of Gospel-Centered, Reformed and Missional churches planted in the Phoenix Metro area. In order to accomplish this great goal, it was decided that we needed a leadership development engine to produce all those church planters and pastors. We see a great need for intentional, theological and practical leadership development to happen at a local church level.
Surge has several moving parts: The first is the Surge School, the second is the Surge Network and last is the Surge Conference. The Surge School is the engine that drives everything else. It is a decentralized, theologically driven leadership development school whose aim is to equip and prepare the next generation of top level leaders.
Vision – The vision of Surge is to fill the greater Phoenix area with transformational leaders who empower and equip God’s people to live God’s way.
Mission – The mission of Surge is to equip leadership-gifted individuals in transformational principles and practices for cultural engagement through an action-reflection model of learning.
Values – The Surge School has 4 overarching, foundational and unchanging values.
Gospel Centrality
Kingdom of God
Mission of God
The Local Church – The Surge School is built upon the belief that the person and work of Jesus Christ is the good news that the kingdom of God has broken into history to reverse the effects of the fall. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the truth that saves and transforms individuals and incorporates them into God’s primary agent of change, the church, which is expressed in every culture through local fellowships of believers
Structure of the Surge School – The structure of the Surge School is built around an action-reflection model of learning that takes place through individual study, transformation tables, and training intensives.
Each individual is required to complete reading and reflection assignments each week.
Transformation Tables are 2-hour round-tables that hold the individual to being, acting, and believing as a transformational leader. Transformation Tables are church-specific and will meet at the frequency and times determined by the Table Leader.
Training Intensives are day and a half to two day (Friday & Saturday) learning environments led by some of the best biblical teachers in the country (participants may need to get a Friday off or get off of work early). Occasionally we will have Training Seminars that are one to two night sessions with practitioners or scholars.
