Sabbath, Play, and the Life of the Leader

In today's world, with its relentless emphasis on success and productivity, we have lost a necessary rhythm of life, namely, the gift of Sabbath. Constantly striving, we feel exhausted and disoriented from work that follows us everywhere through our smartphones. We long for time with friends and family, for rest and celebration, for worship and feasting, but there always seems to be just one more pressing task.

Sabbath is a practice that can be especially difficult for pastors. Sundays are often the busiest day of the week and the remaining days are filled with invitations, meetings, the suffering of the congregation, and the steady drip of urgent emails. What does it look like for leaders to practice Sabbath in the midst of this sleepless, technology-centered, world? How can Sabbath help us know the grace of God whom we proclaim? How is the practice of Sabbath an act of loving our neighbors? How do we tangibly practice Sabbath in such a fragmented world? We will address these questions and more as we discuss Sabbath, Play, and the Life of the Leader.

The North Phoenix Breakfast meet the first Wednesday of every month from September-May. We seek to bring a diverse range of topics into the Surge Breakfast. Sometimes our meetings are more academic and others are more practical.

The breakfast ranges from 20-40+ leaders within our city who gather to fellowship over a great (free) meal and to learn alongside and from one another. We are made up of pastors, non-profit leaders, and other leaders within our city.  Sign up for our newsletter to get emails about our topics so you can RSVP and join us.

Please RSVP for breakfast!
