Exegeting the City

Considering church planting? New to Phoenix? Or just want to grow in learning about the unique city we live in? Join this 3 day intensive and learn alongside pastors and leaders within Surge. Exegeting the City is a 3-day masters level class through the Missional Training Center for our seminary students getting their MA in Theological Studies. Each year, we take students in our first year cohort through 3 days of learning from leaders in our city while we "do theology on the road."  Our bus currently has 7 open seats for students who are not part of MTC to audit the course. If you are interested in auditing, please sign up while we still have space.

Dates & Times: Monday 9 January - Wednesday 11 January  8:30am-4:30pm
Cost: $100

We will be traveling on a bus together, so you will need to be available all three days for the entire time. This is a very experiential class. Tyler Johnson and others will be teaching along the way, but we will be interacting deeply with each other as we work our way through portions of Phoenix to "exegete the city.”

There are two required texts for this course.

    • Evangelism: Doing Justice and Preaching Grace by Harvie Conn (116 pages)
    • Strength to Love by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (192 pages)

These will be full but rich days and you will get much from them. All of our students last year found this class transformative. Our leadership team is already praying for the Spirit to use these three days in all of our lives and we look forward to being with you very much.
